| Blokes Dig Bingo Too |
| |
Well, no surprise for me, but it seems to have taken Yorkshire Evening Post by surprise enough to write a big article about Bingo Crazy Blokes. It's an interesting read on a number of levels as it highlights a couple of major issues facing the game.
Firstly is the outdated and frankly clichéd view of the game and its audience from the media and wider audience outside the game. Now, there were plenty of blokes playing the game when I worked in Bingo, and there are plenty of blokes who play it online as well, albeit often as women. Comments like 'game for the blue rinse brigade' show that Bingo still has a real PR job to do if it's going to change the perceptions about it.
The other thing it highlights is that there is an audience out there beyond the traditional ones and the new, but still too narrow audience it's trying to attract with glitzy TV adverts and celebrity endorsements. Men! Yes indeed, we're still under-served by the industry.
I play, my dad plays and my granddad plays as well - and we're amongst loads of blokes out there playing Bingo. What's more I know there are plenty of blokes out in the world who'd love to play or at least give it a go as well. Still ahead of the smoking ban, no-one in the industry is trying to pump this market with bloke friendly Bingo promotions and adverts. And there's still no bloke version of online Bingo to shout about either! Come on folks, let's not forget that real men like to play Bingo. |
