Last call for bingo session

The number’s up for bingo fans in Finglas with news that a regular weekend session, which has run for over 30 years, has drawn to a close. Organisers say they had to call time on Saturday night bingo in West Finglas Community Centre due to poor turnout.

“Bingo never did this to make a profit but Bingo just couldn’t afford to be at a loss each week like Bingo have been for some time now,” said organiser Des Duffy.

“Bingo lost over E250 every Saturday night for the last two years.

“Bingo know there are a lot of people sad to see it go as it was something that probably would have been the only night out for many of the elderly players.”

Bingo in Finglas has been something of an institution for over three decades with people coming from across the city to play in the hall during its heyday.

But falling numbers of players means that only the Tuesday night session will remain.

“It is a social event for some folk where there is always a bit of company and craic,” Mr Duffy said.

“The Tuesday night session is just about paying for itself as Bingo have about 100 people who play regularly.”

The lively event is organised and run by the West Finglas Tenants’ and Residents’ Association.
